Yoshi's Crafted World

April 06, 2019

I have been looking forward to the release of a Yoshi game on the switch for a while now. I used to play “Yoshi’s Story” on the N64 all those years ago and loved it. The quirky aspect of this “sidekick” to Mario is a lot of fun and entertaining for younger children. I intend on picking up a copy later this week but until then let's fill you in with what the world has thought of this game so far.

The game seems to follow the traditional pattern of collecting 100 coins and attempting to find the 20 hidden red coins. Doing this will award you “smiley flowers” that are essentially a currency to unlock other levels.

A few excerpts from Gavin’s review on Nintedolife.com

  • “Half of the game’s magic comes from spotting the various household objects recycled and repurposed throughout the environment”
  • “The music is the icing on this particularly colourful cake, with an endearingly puffy and slightly out-of-tune pipe accompanying many of the ear-wormy tunes.”
  • “A breezy drop-in/out two-player co-op mode also makes things easier. One player can literally carry the other, making the combined pair more powerful”

Excerpts from Chris’ review at Destructoid.com

  • “This is a cute, very much co-op oriented game where you can wear cardboard boxes as outfits and fight stop-motion enemies. “
  • “The going is mostly carefree to be sure, but there are lots of secrets (flowers and hidden objects), goals (red coins), and costumes to mop up if you want to go that extra mile.”
  • “Co-op is a large part of Crafted World's DNA and I highly suggest you play the entire game with a friend. It opens up all sorts of strategies like riding on each other's backs and spitting one another out to bring down enemies and hazards when you're out of eggs”

Now matter where you look and what reviews you read there are some very consistant views on the game. It is an easy game to play with a lot of things that can keep you interested in it. It’s very visually and auditorily appealing. Most of all it’s a wonderful co-op game. This last point is what I am most interested in. With my personal views on the Donkey Kong:tropical freeze failings it would be wonderful to have a good co-op game to play.

We’ll keep you updated as we get into playing it ourselves, as of right now I would suggest taking the risk and finding out for yourself if your just feeling like you can’t wait for my review!

Happy Gaming.
