A cute looking homage to the old Metroid Prime games this side scroller is available on the Nintendo store and on Steam now. Starring Kiki the kitten who must save is owner from the rubble of his spaceship, Gato Roboto definitely puts a fun twist on the classic Metroidvania style games.
Although little Kiki might be fragile running around (one hit) she somehow finds Mech suits that not only boost her damage resistance but also give her some awesome abilities. The developers, doinksoft, have also included areas where little Kiki must exit her suit to retrieve things leaving her very vulnerable.

"It's a pleasure to spend time peering into this pet-sized world, in other words. And happily, Gato Roboto is also a very good Metroidvania, offering a range of power-ups that are fun to use and suggest new possibilities in old environments. Want a way to clear certain rocks? Gato Roboto has that waiting for you. Want to be able to cross slightly bigger gaps? Your wish will be granted."

"Each battle feels like a win when you do pull it off, though, and Gato Roboto does a really great job of rewarding players for their trouble. Each of the various rewards you unlock are enticing and well-placed throughout the game. They’re also evenly paced through the story, which means you never have to spend much time banging your head against the wall trying to figure out where to go from there. One small thing that I really liked about Gato Roboto, personally, were these collectible items called “Cartridges”. When collected, the Cartridges unlock new color palettes (in case the black and white isn’t your style). There are a couple of really good ones, but overall, I spent most of my time playing in the default black and white, because it just fits the world so well."

”When training a pet, you’re told to reward them for good behaviour: if they sit down, give them a treat; if they roll over, rub their belly. That elation after finally thwarting the killer rat is reward itself, yeah, but the extra goodies aren’t nearly as satisfying. A suped-up suit’s additional firepower is great, but I want more reason to double back than increased health. The effort outweighs the award. Still, those times where I absolutely smashed that cocky, squeaky prick will live long in the memory.”

So with an average score in the high sevens this cute cat game is no slacker. Although it has some shortcomings the overall review of this game is very positive. If you're into Metroidvania style games you might really enjoy this one!
